These
photos show water drops colliding with the tops of soap bubbles. A photogate triggered by the passage
of a drop served as the trigger for the single flash
unit used in the setup.
The
original intent of this project was to rupture a bubble by collision
with a drop. In most cases, however,
the drop passed right through. The first photo is
representative of this result. When the soap bubble was
allowed to drain for a long time, the collision with the drop was
sometimes sufficient to initiate rupture. The second photo
shows this.
