Cords for Vivitar 283 and 285 flash units

Vivitar 283s were the workhorses of professional photographers for many years. As it turns out, they're also great for high-speed photography due to the ease with which flash duration can be adjusted. (See this page for information about how to adjust flash duration.) While the 283 isn't manufactured anymore, used units are easy to find. The 285 is still being manufactured.

We have three options for cords when using Vivitar 283/285 flash units with our trigger circuits. Your choice of option depends on whether you want to assemble the cord yourself and what your budget is.

VPC. Vivitar PC-1 Synch Cord (straight)

VPCQ. Quick Disconnect Vivitar PC-1 Cord

Note: These cords are not for the Vivitar DF 283 flash. This model is not the same as the Vivitar 283.

VPC.  Vivitar PC-1 Synch Cord (straight)

This 1-foot long, straight PC cable connects at one end to a Vivitar 283 or 285HV flash unit. The other end normally connects to a camera's sync jack. However, you can snip off that end and splice the cable to the conductor cable that comes with our trigger kits. The other end of the 2-conductor cable would connect to the output of the trigger.

VPCQ.  Quick Disconnect Vivitar PC-1 Synch Cord

If you would like us to prepare the cable for you so that when you receive it, you simply need to connect the cable to your flash unit on one end and to your trigger circuit on the other, select the Quick Disconnect PC-1 Cord. We'll prepare an RCA-style quick disconnect plug and jack to connect the adapter to your circuit board. We'll also put an RCA jack on the PC half of the cut cord so that you can restore the PC-1 to its original use whenever you wish.

Note: If you prefer to go the DIY route and prepare your own quick disconnect cable, we have RCA plugs and jacks available on the Parts for Projects page.

VPC-A.  Trigger cord for Vivitar 283/285 (assembled)

You can save $10 off the price of a VPCQ by not getting the quick disconnect option. Instead, we'll prepare a cable that plugs into your Vivitar 283 or 285 flash unit on one end and directly into your circuit breadboard on the other end. Note that with this option, you won't be able to restore the cable to its original function as a PC cord which plugs into a camera synch jack.
