Fifth class: July 7, 2008, 6 - 8 PM
Next class: Tuesday, July 8, 6 - 8 PM
Today: You'll build a photogate and use it together with a delay unit to observe falling drops of water.
We have a new instructor: Dahl. Ask her if you need help with your circuits.
1. Check delay units. They should all work now. Dahl checked all the circuits, shortened the wires so they wouldn't touch each other, and replaced some bad 556 timers.
2. Problem 1
3. If you need to change your delay unit to give a maximum delay of half a second, do so now.
4. Problem 2
5. If you need to change your delay unit to have a dead time of much less than a second, do so now.
6. Now we'll build photogates together. Here are the instructions.
7. Next you'll build splash boxes to observe falling and splashing drops. The teachers will show you how. Then each group will build their own and test it. You have to be patient, because it's difficult to get everything to work together. Taking photos of drops is also difficult, but you may try.
