Basic Balloon Bursts

Richard punctured these air balloons with the point of a dart.  He used dark balloons, since that seemed to emphasize the contrast between the inside and outside of the balloon.  He positioned a sound trigger at different distances from the balloon to capture the rips in various stages. The trigger is visible at the bottom of the balloon in some of the photos.

Richard graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the spring of '98.  Prior to that, he was a student at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
