The
pellet that collided with the elastic strip was fired from a special
air rifle that shoots pellets at very nearly the speed of sound.
This is more than twice the speed of the BB shown on the other
pages. The greater speed of the pellet is evident from the length of
the pellet's blurred image. (For all photos, the duration of the
flash exposure was about 1/30,000 s.)
