Fractured Food
Trevor Bair and Amoz Eckerson
The photographs in this gallery were taken by two students
who hail from Harold Edgerton's home town of Aurora, Nebraska. They
took most of the photos in the basement of the Edgerton
Explorit Center in Aurora. In addition to learning how to take
high-speed photographs, they were among the Center's first volunteers during
its first year of operation in '95-96. They helped to set up,
maintain, and build some of the exhibits as well as present demonstration
programs on how to take high-speed photographs.
The four photos in this gallery show various foods
being pulverized with pellets. Of course, any experimentation involving high-speed
projectiles should only be done under controlled conditions with responsible
adult supervision. Amoz and Trevor wore goggles, stopped the BBs in a
trap, and worked systematically to ensure that no one would ever be in the
path of a BB.
Trevor is now a student at the University of Kansas, while
Amoz attends the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
