This carrot was split by the pellet that struck it. Interestingly, a symmetry is displayed, whereby the carrot particles are ejected from both the front and the back over approximately the same angle of spread. The view from above might also be interesting in showing how much matter is ejected to the sides, toward and away from the camera.
